Interviw by Tim Brown

When and why did you start playing? I was a kid who started singing in church. Maybe about 8 years old. It just seemed natural because most of my family sung
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why? There’s so many but Sam Cooke is such a vibe to me. He’s so smooth but so soulful at the same time. Whitney Houston is my favorite singer though. I love Michael, Luther, and En Vogue. I’m pretty old school in music.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones? My parents were very eclectic in their musical taste. I could hear gospel, rock, soul and all that in one setting. We were musically free. It was empowering because we were restricted in other areas.
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s? Basically the before mentioned people
Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes? I did loads of talent contest in high school. I won several and it was confirmation that I was on track
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? I have been across the world performing, I’ve been in cover bands, I have my own band, I’ve performed with celebrities, I have had my music on radio in different countries as well as USA . However I do everything like it’s my first time.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you? I love that it’s simple but still cool. I didn’t rely on samples and it’s all original. Take it or leave it. I also love that I didn’t try to fit in.
Why did you choose to play this kind of music? I think this music chose me. I just had the courage to make it in my style . With the background I had this was inevitable. I’ll say I spent my younger years escaping my world through music and I created a space where I entertained.
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work… before this album I did a holiday album that I turned into a play and now a movie streaming world wide. I felt it was time to put together an album that stood on its own. Carolina Blues started out as a different concept but as I begin to hear the songs i felt it was more true to what I wanted to convey.

How do you feel about the internet in the music business? As long as it’s been around it still feels new, so I’m learning how to thrive in this era. Honestly it’s very challenging but my team and I are always thinking of what to do next. I do still feel that it leaves a gap between the artist and fans that makes it harder to connect with the actual product
What are the plans for the future? I want to continue to make great music and movies and thrive in all field entertainment. I want to inspire through what I do. Just as simple as that.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music? I really had no idea what I was doing I just knew I had enough courage and enough talent to shake off the jitters and put it out there. Good bad and indifferent I took advantage of opportunities and all though I wasn’t polished it allowed me to learn and grow on the process. When I look back I’m like what was I thinking releasing some of the things I did in that era but now I see it was a part of my growth
Could you briefly describe the music-making process?
Generally I’ll have an idea and I’ll play it on the keys. Then I’ll reach out to my writing partner and we come up with the song and I’ll collaborate with the producer I think fits it best. Or often I’m sent music and I just write to it.
