Interview by Tim Brown
When and why did you start playing? I started making music as a kid around 11 years.
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why? Some famous artists that I admire are Michael Jackson, Nas, Madonna, Bruno Mars and pretty much anyone who is expressive with their creativity.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones? My latest single is actually inspired by Michael Jackson’s song “Black or White”. The overall message in the song is basically saying no matter what color you are, or where you are from, music brings people together.
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s? My music is so eclectic, I usually go from one genre to another depending on my mood. Some albums I pop in and can listen all the way through are Nas “N” album, then I can go to Owl City “Ocean Eyes” album if I’m resting, or I will even put on a Drake album. Long as it’s good music, I’m listening.
Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes? When I first started putting myself out there I entered and won competitions and showcases, but as I got further into my career I started getting nominations for awards. My most recent nomination was for the Queen City Awards last year in December.
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV. I usually perform anytime I have a single or album out. I have done 2 nationwide tours, 1 from 2012-2013, and the other from 2015-2016. Both lasted a year and reached 47 states. I’ve also done festivals and award shows.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you? Good music to me is anything with a purposeful meaning and when the artist actually writes it from the heart.
Why did you choose to play this kind of music? Music like that speaks to me since I am a creative and a visual artist myself.
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work… Right now I have a single out called, “That’s The Way”, and as I touched on briefly earlier, it’s about music bringing people together. It’s saying represent what you are, where you from, and how you do things. Even if you have fun by doing backflips all day, I want you to say, “That’s The Way I get it”!
This single is leading up to my upcoming album, “Traveling”, coming this summer. Since I’m a more universal artist, my sound ranges from Pop, Hip-Hop, and to R&B. There is something for everyone to enjoy from my music!
How do you feel about the internet in the music business? The internet makes it easy to get your music out there into the world, but I also believe in traditional promotion along with a good online presence. It’s all about balance.
What are the plans for the future? I will become the next legendary entertainer.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music? I only release or make music when I have something I want to say to the world. Right now I’m inspired by things I’ve seen over the past couple of years and I wanted to create music that expresses that. My process usually takes about 2 years to complete because I thoroughly write my songs to capture the emotion behind my inspiration.
