Interview by Tim Brown
When and why did you start playing?I was always interested in singing since I was a child, I grew up in the church and was singing in the junior and youth choir.
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?I loved Smokey Robinson because of his voice and his songs had messages to them you could really understand the lyrics and the music.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones?I loved Barry white his voice and his song the first the last my everything, and also the stylistics and their song betcha by golly wow, and the Delfonics and their song didn’t I blow your mind now that was real music.
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s?my favorites musicians are the old school players because listening to there music you understood what they were singing about. The whispers to Smokey Robinson and Keith sweat to the temptations their music had a story you could relate too.
Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes?I would have to say No I have never been in any competitions.
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV. I only performed a little of my song when I was getting interviewed on television.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you?Because it’s from the heart and the experiences I went through when I decided to date again after breast cancer. I know a lot of women could relate to the humiliation and shame and hurt one feels.
Why did you choose to play this kind of music?I choose this because of what I had to endure after breast cancer, I was physically and mentally and verbally abused and was told that no one would ever want me because I wasn’t a real woman anymore and I needed to get used to being treated like this. I took that to heart and gave up on dating for ten years believing that I wasn’t good enough When I hear take me I”m yours it makes me believe in love again because that is how I want to be treated. I was so broken that I pushed away from the one person that saw me not my scars, not my cancer but for me, he was my guardian angel. And every time I hear take me I’M yours I think of him and how my heart hurts because of how I hurt him and pushed him away
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work… My music is about showing breast cancer survivors that you could find and believe in love again that cancer was the disease not them and to never give up on love. It’s about opening your heart and to not let the fear of being rejected take over because you have to work and believe a little harder but everyone deserves to be and find love. It is a soul and sultry R&B, I am also a published author with a number of books with my last one call (Forbidden and broken finding love behind the scars) you could purchase on Amazon
How do you feel about the internet in the music business?I am a work in process.
