Interview by Tim Brown

When and why did you start playing?

A= Music is my whole life. It runs through my veins. I play all different type of instruments, been doing so since like the age of 5. Started djing at 11. Gogo music is big in DC and i was in bands, so I mean it’s my first love! It’s something I will always do!

Were you influenced by old records & tapes?

A=Yes! Definitely, Definitely. I’m a lover of all music. I grew up on the the oldies and hearing my father play the tapes and Cds. My mother and her salsa lol. I was exposed to all types of music. But that old school vibe I want to bring back to life in our current music.

Who are your favorite musicians? Groups?

A= This is a classic question! Right off the top I can say RIP to Nipsey Hussle, definitely a big influence. Kem rnb singer is top 5 for sure, great musician. Davido I’m a big fan of, love his style. Jcole forsure. And on the spot that’s what I got lol!

Why did you choose to play this kind of music?

A= I do all types of music..being a musician I explore all fields. Yes hip hop and rnb are my main genres you would put me in. But I’m an artist. I love it all and want to branch out learn and create. Music is limitless to me.

Let’s Talk about your music and your last work…

A= My last project “The Perfect Vibe” was released in November 2018. This
was my first album and first album released under the Yns Family Label. Two things to be proud of there. But still pushing my single “Rock With You” and “What You Gonna do”. But with this Ep which is still not named I’m so excited for. It’s a new sound, new delivery. I believe fans are in for a real treat.

How do you feel about the internet in the music business?

A= The internet is big business. I mean it’s what keep up all intertwined. You have unlimited resources, which can be good or bad but we have the access to established ourselves. Music now days is a big influence and with the internet honestly possibilities are endless…its all on how we use it and I believe knowledge is power.

What are the plans for the future?

A= Big plans forsure! You know as an independent artist its hard to tap into the main stream resources but…im dropping an Ep this August or September with some of DC’s biggest names, trying to change the wave in DC. Building the brand of Yns Family Is my main focus and building that strong team to move forward and just take over. But with my upcoming ep, we are planning on setting up a college tour shortly after so you know stay tuned.

How has your music evolved since you first began playing music?

A= Wow! I have definitely seen growth in my music. Always have had the same vision but like any artist over time I found out what my strengths and weaknesses are. Kinda found my way, my own lane if you may. And I’m comfortable at this point. Still growing but comfortable!

Could you briefly describe the music-making process?

Lol yea it’s all over the place. Music controls so much of me just depends on what vibe or state of mind I’m in. I know forsure ima be smoking somewhere in the process lol. But I’m a thinker. I usually let the beat talk to me and go from there. I’d ride with my cousin Dee all day and just play instrumental and create. I don’t focus to much on concepts. Just let the beat spin and my mind moving.

Coming out of the Dmv area, do you feel it is hard for musicians in your area to break out?

Dmv is a very and I mean a very hard place to be heard. I feel that in the lane im in, because im between that trap and pop, and rnb, people will hear me but wont listen until you have some clout. I’m definitely not a clout chaser nor believe in fitting in. But it takes years for some of the rarest flowers to bloom and I been working over 10 years and now just getting some recognition. But I feel if your determined you can make it in whatever you believe. Dmv area is getting better, but it’s still one of the hardest markets. But this is our time and the light is on us and I definitely wanna step up to the plate and represent dmv as that Universal artist. We have great talent here.
