Artists can be dime-a-dozen, but there is only one Matio D.
Emerging from the elite Boston music scene in Massachusetts, Hip Hop recording artist Matio D (real name Mbathio Diarra) began hitting the ground running in the music realm since her inception into the industry many years ago. Known for tackling many industry roles including being a singer, songwriter, author and screenplay writer, her multifaceted approach has helped her manifest into a versatile and driven Hip Hop artist with her own signature sound and stylization; and hasn’t slowed down her momentum since that time.
Matio D (also known as “Badass Ripper”), originally hailing from Senegal in West Africa, moved to Boston in 2003 to attend college after she graduated from High school. She has been a ghostwriter for several years but finally decided to get out of the closet and do what she loves to do most: singing. As part of her mission in music, her artistic merit centralizes on her passion for creating innovative songs to share with the world that express some of her most beautiful, philosophical and inspirational content out of her insatiable desire to inspire, educate and be a role model to society and music listeners collectively. Her belief is that music should be educational and that we can change the world for the better through the prospect of writing and sharing your stories.
Her current songs “Redemption” and “Remember The Time (Live in Atlanta)” had garnered the rising artist an impressive internet buzz and growing fan base. These days, she knows how to enjoy life, using her craft to be a voice for hip-hop, continuing its movement with her community and fanbase, and living the life of an artist on the rise. She has come a long way since her breakthrough and is driven to maintain her originality and to keep shooting for greatness. Judging by her success so far, Matio D is well on her way to the top. And Hip Hop fans will soon be used to hearing her name.
Interview by Tim Brown
When and why did you start playing?
Music has always been a passion at a very young age.I’ve been writing songs, poems when i was around 10 and through the years my passion grows more and more and here am being what i always wanted to become: A singer- songwriter
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why?
It has always been Whitney Houston
I learn from the best and she is indeed. She simply has a unique voice. When she sings i definitely feel her energy and it puts me to a whole another spiritual stage.
Have you been in competitions?
Yes. I am always competing against myself and everyday i want to be better than the person that i was yesterday.
Do you perform in public?
Yes Of course mostly in Atlanta.
The feeling is amazing, knowing that people rock with your tyle, your message there’s no price for it.
It always gives me an achievement feeling when after a performance people approaching me and say ” Who makes the beat” ” it’s such unique and different” That’s how i know my team and i did a great job by captivating the audience attention and that all an artist can wish for.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you?
The captivating beat and the unique style associate with my songs.I also pour my heart to deliver my messages and most importantly the educational and inspirational message behind Matio D’s music.
Why did you choose to play this kind of music?
I am a free person full of energy, fierce, a go getter, not afraid to voice out my thoughts and opinions.
A rebel you can call me. With the hot blood character that i have i said to myself only Hip hop can handle me lol.
That’s where i’m more comfortable to deliver what i want to deliver and the flow and vibes is natural in me already.
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work…
My debut single is ” Remember The time” out since last August. In that single i felt the urge to educate lots of people about Black History also empower and motivate by implying you can be anything you want if you put your mind to it.
My second single “Redemption” also in the same educational pattern is very deep, abstract and philosophic.
I wanted to point out that nowadays the only root of evil is our subconscious which influences our bad behaviour and It’s never too late to repent and change:”I’m possible is the new impossible.”
For my Future plans Ep dropping soon and an upcoming tour.
Cheers to great Music!!
