Baltimore’s Own “SWIFLYFE”
When and why did you start doing music?
I started doing music, consecutively 4years, but I’ve been in and out with rapping since I was 17. I started rapping because I got tired of hearing the same topics rapped by everyone and I wanted to hear something different.
Which famous musician do you admire? And why?
I admire Nas, Tupac, Biggie, Dr. Dre, and Eminem just to name a few. The reason why I admire these people is because they always speak the truth and send messages thru their music. Whatever they was going through or whatever they was thinking, they rapped and wrote about it and these days, a lot of people have ghost writers. Nobody wants to write about their own feelings or put their own thoughts on paper. They don’t have the time for it, but those individuals amongst more that I didn’t name did! Tupac always rapped his whole life. Dr. Dre, Biggie, and Eminem are the few famous musicians that I admire. R.I.P Tupac, who was dangerous with the pen, and R.I.P Biggie, the best detailed story teller of his time..
Were you influenced by old Records & Tapes which ones.
I listened to alot of R&B growing up. I liked songs with a positive message, songs that relax and educate at the same time.
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups?..
Nas, Ludacris, TI, Tupac, Young Jeezy, Lupae Fiasco, Kendrick Lamar, Swiflyfe. Far as groups, Boyz 2 Men and the Temptations,
Have you been in competitions? Any prizes?
I participated in a few competitions just to challenge myself against other genres and won two different ones in which I won a trip to NYC for free studio time as well as a show in Manhattan.
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV?
I have not had an opportunity to perform in a public setting yet, but I’ve been on 4 different internet radio stations playing my music, getting feedback from the listeners as well as answer a few questions for people to know me better. I performed at my cousins church on fathers day, local and non local night clubs and strip clubs.
What makes this kind of music good to you?
My music motivates, teaches, relax, and educate people of all ages.
Why did you choose this kind of music?
My music have positive messages in every track, and guaranteed, everybody can relate to some if not all.
Lets talk about your music and your last work?
I’ve made a mixtape that’s now available on all media sites. I’m now working on my first official album dropping soon.
How do you feel about the internet in the music business?
I believe that the internet is a good source to connect people worldwide, but I also believe that the internet made people lazy and no one wants to put in the ground work, the up close and personal connections.
What are your plans for the future?
I will continue to make great music, invest in my city and help build it back, youth programs for the helpless, clothing line, restaurants, and more opportunities for the youth.
How has your music evolved since you first began rapping?
When I first started rapping, my lyrics were negative and vougar, but over the years I have changed my style for the better since my children and family listens. Now I make music with a purpose.
Could you briefly describe the music making process..
I like to listen to different beats until the right instrumental choose me, then I start freestyling to hear how it would sound, then create a hook, and after that I record it on my phone, listening back to make any corrections afterwards. I then go back and record another take on my phone, listen to it, and once I’m satisfied with the changes, then I go to the studio and record , mix and master the track…
