Darien Savoy (born August 1, 1997), better known by his stage name Phannum or “King” Phannum, is an American hip hop recording artist. Raised in Baltimore, Maryland, Phannum initially gained recognition as a rapper following the release of his debut mixtape in early-2011. He started out in a group crafting mixtapes and helped master his group members’ techniques and artistry development. Once feeling the need to grow independently on further pursuing a solo career as a rapper, he went on to release two additional mixtapes after signing to Anarchy Cirque’s imprint in 2018 which is an international indie label.
Phannum released his debut single, “Maybe Next Time”, in 2018. It takes you through the eyes of young love and their retrospective relationship and heartbreak. The point of view from Phannum is loosely based on his personal experiences. His bold and emphatic message is a true testament on how he expresses his emotions and messages through lyrics.
Musically influenced by the sounds of the 60’s and 70’s, Phannum’s upbringing with music was introduced through his mother and grandmother. His lyrical prows is curated from the great writing techniques of the Motown and Stax Records days of musicality. His artistic sound is similar to the likes of Kendrick Lamar and J. Cole, painting an image with every verse. This is what’s called an unfiltered version of facts.
