Interview by Tim Brown
When and why did you start playing? I started writing poems in elementary. By the beginning of middle school I was starting to write and freestyle my first raps.
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why? I’m inspired by musicians from the 60’s and up like Otis Redding, Michael Jackson, Etta James, Ray Charles, Jimi Hendrix and many more. It’s what my family listened to around the house growing up.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones? I can say I was surely influenced from 80’s and 90’s music like “Walk This Way” by Run DMC. Kurtis Blow “These Are The Breaks”. Children’s Story by Slick Rick. “6 In The Morning” by Ice T.
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s? “Just A Friend” by Biz Markie. “I Ain’t No Joke” by Eric B. & Rakim. The list could go on for days…
Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes? I performed at my first talent show at the end of middle school school and got great feedback. I was also featured on the Local TV Show “The Larry Pickett Show”. Since then I’ve performed at a number of small venues and events; for profit and non profit.
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV. I recently performed at the 2HotConcert hosted by Black Ink in Atlanta on December 29, 2020 for New Years Eve, and I was also in a fashion hosted by Goodefellaz Ent on April 18, 2021 to launch off some new clothing lines.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you? For me I enjoy the fun in the creation process and really love relating to someone else’s music finding that we have some of the same opinions or experiences.
Why did you choose to play this kind of music? I chose to express myself through hiphop, being that I listen to mostly hiphop, rnb, and jazz most days.
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work… I’m a conscious hiphop artist infused with gansta rap, trap music and a touch of soul. I just released an album on April 1, 2021 and titled “Struggle From Within”.
How do you feel about the internet in the music business? My opinion is that the Internet is a great place to expand your reach to a bigger audience to places that you may not be able to make it to, but it’s no feeling like meeting fans face to face and performing live.
What are the plans for the future? My plans for the future are to perform at more invents and produce for visuals.
How has your music evolved since you first began playing music? Each song that I write and record, I feel that I learn more about myself and how each song is unique to me.
Could you briefly describe the music-making process? I listen to instrumentals lots of days just vibing and freestyling until a concept comes to my head. By then I’m usually working on the hook or tweaking the hook. At that point I’m purchasing the beat and starting to draft my verses out and decide if I’ll do a feature on the track. The rest is history!!!
