Is the dawn’s early light more than you bargained for, yeah?

Major League Baseball has held Fall Out Boy in high esteem for some time, and on Friday night (Oct. 28), its lead singer will take the mic for a truly historic moment in his home city’s history: the national anthem at the Cubs’ first World Series home game since 1945.

Stump — and the rest of Fall Out Boy — have been vocal about their Cubs fandom for a long time. And they’re seasoned veterans when it comes to performing at major sporting events. Earlier this season, they played a show during the pre-game festivities around the MLB All-Star Game in San Diego. Last year, they performed at the Cubs’ Wrigley Field as part of its Opening Day celebration. And even way back in 2007, they performed a frigid January halftime show at Chicago’s Soldier Field when the Bears were playing in the NFC Championship Game.

This year, Stump is in good company. Rounding out the lineup of Game 3 performers is Bill Murray (a noted superfan) singing “Take Me Out to the Ballgame” during the Seventh Inning Stretch, Cubs Hall of Famer Billy Williams throwing the ceremonial first pitch and veteran Wrigley public address announcer Wayne Messmer handling “God Bless America.”

With the series tied at one game apiece, the Cubs will take on the Cleveland Indians for the first of three home games, after playing the first two on the road.

It’s been almost two years since Fall Out Boy released its last studio album, American Beauty/ American Psycho. Could this be a sign of the members coming together to get moving on their next project?
