Interview w/ Cheezy

Cheezy is a very innovative hip-hop artist based in Mississippi. His sound captures the warmth and edge of the southern feel, but there is also a lot more to it than that. In fact, he also has a more contemporary approach to the genre, going for a more immediate and genuine sound that sets the bar higher. Fans of artists as diverse as Lil Wayne, Joey Bada$$ or Pimp C are definitely going to connect with Cheezy’s brand new single release, “Fuckk The Grammys.” The track packs an enormous punch, with a massive beat and a truly authentic sound that never ceases to impress. This song is energetic and upfront, but Cheezy is also able to bring a lot of melody to his sound, going for a truly special production flair that makes the song stand out.

When and why did you start playing? My first time going in the studio recording was around 2010 but it was in a single wide trailor
Which famous musicians do you admire? Why? Pimp C fa sho because he stood on morals, principles, & integrity without getting caught up in the trend.
Were you influenced by old records & tapes? Which ones? Yes old albums definitely inspired me like the 2pac All Eyes On Me, UGK Dirty Money, & Biggie Life After Death albums were motivation
Who are your favorite musicians? Groups? CD’s? I have a variety of favorites when it comes to music from hip hop, R&B, & soul music. Kinda hard to pin them individually
Have you been in competitions? Fleadh’s? Any prizes? Naw I really don’t participate in competitions because I do the music to motivate with real life situations not for a clown show! That’s why I made Fuck The Grammys to express how validation isn’t needed behind a passion u love to do.
Do you perform in public? Describe those occasions? Concerts, radio, TV. A few years ago I was performing but nowadays u know it’s all about the money. So people expect u to pay them instead of you getting paid & I refuse to be a victim with the type of money I’ve invested in my craft.
What makes this kind of music “good” to you? The music I make is good to me because each songs comes from a learning experience I’ve seen or went through myself. I don’t believe in making fairytale music I leave that up to the main stream
Why did you choose to play this kind of music? I choose to make this type of music because I feel like the streetz are missing the true jewels of beating the odds. True stories must be presented if we’re ever going to change the narrative on unifying in urban communities
Let’s Talk about your music and your last work… Like I mentioned before Fuck The Grammys is my latest single off my upcoming project “Against All Odds”. This record is definitely relevant in today music because so many times we see great artists get overlooked by culture vultures who doesn’t even understand the struggles many of us come from. So I wanted to put something out there to where people could relate too & think about other than just embracing a good beat. So us have been through the darkest tunnel & it shouldn’t take suits to acknowledge us from label heads.
How do you feel about the internet in the music business? I feel like the internet is a gift & curse to the music industry. It’s good because us as independent artist can push our own music out on the platforms & gain fans from all over the world to make money. It’s horrible because so many beef escalate from it & people lose their lives by trying to prove points to a bunch of strangers who don’t truly love them nor support them until something bad happened to them. Internet praise people for the goofy shit they do.
What are the plans for the future? My plan is simple become rich lol
